<![CDATA[Water – Your wellness choice]]>Fri, 23 Mar 2018 08:51:39 GMThttp://thestands.co/blog/water-your-wellness-choice
Luxury is part of life, it gives strength and fulfilment to he who desires it. However, the depth of satisfaction may vary depending on the how and where that luxury is sourced. For ages, water; the commonest liquid which occupies about three quarter ¾ of the earth surface and also found beneath or in the deep of the land remains the most invigorating compound. Some even say water is life.

Several spiritual antidotes are either invoked into water, mixed with it and even in some cases water goddess are made out of the proficiency and capability of water as an invigorator. But just as the ancients recognised the importance of water apart from drinking it, today the technology of the modern age has improved upon the means and ways of using water for wellness and fitness.

In recent times wellness and fitness has become an essential part of our daily living. The modern way of life demand an efficient body that is ready to function and be stressed: this is the reality of today’s living. Therefore our relaxation, regeneration must be far reaching, beyond the treadmills, sauna and steamroom which are also essential part of it , we must endure the luxury of tropical cloudburst ,cascade, body massage , shower function , water in form of steam and involving steaming of the sauna stone. Use of Jacuzzi and swimming spa that can be surface placed or installed into the ground without the fear of pollution. Your efficiency depends on wellness, your wellness depends on how far your body is relaxed, Your total health may also depend on how well you make use of water.

<![CDATA[HEAT THERAPY 2]]>Tue, 20 Jun 2017 20:15:02 GMThttp://thestands.co/blog/heat-therapy-2Some of this therapy date back to 400BC while others are recent discoveries. However our main concern here is the sauna, which is dry heat and the steam bath which is the wet heat.

A sauna is usually made of a wooden material, preferably the fin wood sectioned into logs of between two and six inches wide and up to 8ft long. These logs are joined together either vertically or horizontally depending on the choice of the builder. The interior could be made to seat one to four persons or sometimes more at a time. The heater is then planted in such a way that the occupant will be able to wet the stones in the stove /heater as he/she wishes or humidity required. This aspect of it should be noted. However in recent time, technology has made it possible to use infra red light for the same heating purpose but some how without the choice of humidity.
Steam bath can be carried out in a variety of ways. We have mentioned the African native intelligence method of steam bath, which is a matter of boiling water or "Agbo" as the case may be and get the beneficiary covered up to absorb the vapour via the skin. Wealthy Indians of 200 B.C did not consider their mansion complete unless it included a bathhouse with a steam room. The Muslim Hamman, or bathhouse, central steam chamber is installed, an integral part of life in Muslim countries. A steam bath involves boiling of water that will in turn give off steam as it gaseous state. However the steam generated are normally highly humid. It is also hot and at a temperature higher than the boiling point of water. But because it displaces the air already present in the cubicle or covered cloth it will gradually increase as to allow the body get use to it. In the recent past many methods have been involved to trap steam and even to generate it.
Understandably because it is hydro based, wooden cabinet cannot be good for it as with sauna. Also, to keep the temperature without losing so much of the needed heat, fabrics are not very suitable. Therefore ceramics, glass and other materials in this category has been found suitable to conserve heat and also maintain status. Generating the steam is another issue of concern. If you boil water and quickly cover up yourself with it, the temperature will quickly fall as it rises. If you cover yourself up, while the water boils, the water may soon dry up and in any case, you are held down to it. Or you can continue to replenish the water. But aside from all this, modern technology has made it possible for you to enjoy your steam for as long as you want without concerning yourself with the source. You can decide and choose the temperature at which you want it and for how long you want. Also for you to decide the interior and or how many persons you want in it. How is this possible ?you will see very soon.
Why sauna or steam?

As much as we talk about healthy living, our environment continuously remains a source of threat to this healthy life. Not only this; our daily activities and occupation also challenge our health. Therefore there is always the need to continuously maintain good health by seeking it out or through routine activities that will in turn help or promote our well being. Heat therapy has become a veritable means of maintaining good health.

Heat therapy increases blood flow, tolerance level and flexibility.
“Heat speeds up the chemical processes in the body, making steam and sauna bathing one of the simplest and most comfortable ways to rid the body of accumulated toxins. As the pores open up and the million of sweat glands start to excrete, the body rids itself of metabolic and other waste products. Sweat contains almost the same elements as urine, and for this reason, the skin is sometimes called the third kidney. It is estimated that as much as 30% of bodily wastes are eliminated by way of perspiration.”- The International Steam Therapy Association

These days we eat lots of snacks and junks that are not really useful to the body but just good for taste and fill of the stomach. This need be excreted away to free our body system from the burden of deposited fats and oil that are not required for our normal activity.
There are numerous medical benefits derivable from sauna or steam bath. Further information and enlightenment in regards to this can be gotten from medical personnel or a knowledgeable and experienced beauty therapist or LANNIK BEAUTY INSTITUTE & WELLNESS CENTRE
Apart from the numerous health benefits which cannot be exhaustively discussed in the course of this write-up our beauty care is of equal importance. The skin remains the largest organ of the body and the first impression you can make of yourself. Therefore the need for a glowing skin cannot be over emphasised. According to Dr. Paavo Aviola, an author in health matters:
"The sauna increases the eliminative, detoxifying and cleansing capacity of the skin by stimulation of sweat glands. A steam bath provides a mild cleansing process for the skin as certain body fluids are released through the skin. It also promotes healthy skin tone and texture due to increased blood circulation."

It is also true and correct to say that sauna or steam bath is a good way to relax. The muscles of the body are usually tensed up by standing, seating, lying down for too long. Unfortunately, non of this can be totally avoided by any person. You are either seating for too long, standing for two long or even if you are the lazy type, you will become a lay about. Heat therapy will exchange the tenseness of muscle with the subtle gradually increasing heat and your mind will be shifted away from the muscle and with a good massage thereafter you must fall asleep and forget your pains. This is also a psychological treatment or benefit if you like to see it like that.

A couple entered into a steam room with face frowned and they came out laughing, such is the effect of warm humid wind of change in the steam room. Going through a romantic experience of a steam…, shower…, steam…, shower…reveals the newness of the skin that has shed off the old cornified layer exposing the new born skin nourished by the increased blood flow to the basal layer. …the result may be what to expect in nine month – a new baby.]]>

<![CDATA[June 21st, 2016]]>Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:39:47 GMThttp://thestands.co/blog/june-21st-2016The elements involved in the wellness / spa design.

What do an individual seek in the spa / wellness centre? Is it just relaxation or /and wellbeing or mere group and association identity.

Wellness today has receded from been a mere activity occasioned by the use of exercise medium like the treadmills, stationed cycle, weight adjuster, sauna, steam and the rest of such. It is now the ammonisation of the body, soul and spirit to bring about healthy living via total rejuvenation of the entire man.

Therefore to sustain youthful life; one needs a comprehensive understanding of these elements that is the pro qui num of the desired life style.

- A good and resolute desire for what is right.

- The will to do that which we have found out to be truly right

- Adequate energy to sustain the right path.

- Keeping a way from stress and stressful situations.

- Godly and good instructions and cooperation on the part the recipient.

- Moderate expectations.

A lot more can be considered but excuse me, if we keep in line with the above the objective can be achieved.

Now a well designed spa/wellness should be able to take adequate care of the parameters as stated. A good spa starts from a very welcoming environment that could instigate client’s confidence and inspire good desire. It starts from the reception.

The size of the reception may count depending on the total size of spa /wellness centre. However no matter how small or big the energy it is able to boost in the client has a lot to do with effectual satisfaction or otherwise of the client. To say it all; the desire to agree to therapy starts from this point.

Walking in from this point; the energy must be revamped by what the client sees and the aroma of the environment. The synergy of the architecture and the work flow process. What next to see must communicate and earn the spa the required sustainability and adequacy premised on what is seen.

What are the service rooms like? They must be simple and easily identifiable; these are the main power point. Individually the rooms must at instance communicate the type of service to be rendered. Layout will largely depend on the adequacy of area available.

It pertinent to note that the customization of the treatment room such that it immediately speaks to the client about the ability of the spa to do that which is set to do is very important. To activate the full will of clients. Designs must create attractions that will encourage aspirations to want to pull ones clothing and identify totally with that environment and even get consumed in it.

I have seen many spas designed to suit available space not in the least consideration for work flow. Imagine crossing the reception, with towel wrapped, to get the next therapy or across the reception to have your bath after a sauna/ steam session. This type of traverse could result in energy loss or some unpleasant sighting.

At www.thestands.co the resolve is to make you the spa/wellness centre of repute. Create the right environment for energy required by both the workforce and client.

<![CDATA[HEAT THERAPY- STEAMBATH /SAUNA ADVANTAGE - 1]]>Sun, 13 Mar 2016 21:01:50 GMThttp://thestands.co/blog/heat-therapy-steambath-sauna-advantage-1HEAT THERAPY- STEAMBATH /SAUNA ADVANTAGE

A Therapy could be described as a non medicinal treatment that is effected by the use of internal body stimulator induced by external force or agents. Therefore a therapy that is due to heat or induced by heat is called heat therapy. How is this achieved? The body itself has the ability to generate heat, also to auto control and regulate the body’s internal heat. However, as with other organs of the body this function may not be absolute. This could happen when the body is attacked by a disease or infection. The body raises its temperature in attempt to destroy the virus or bacteria responsible. Ditto the bacteria /viruses living in the body sometimes malfunction leading to excessive build-up of unwanted body fats and toxins. In the Scandinavian countries of Finland and Russia the use of Sauna has been found useful to heat up the body to allow the stored up body fats to melt and come out as sweat, also as a means of detoxification of the skin and to keep the body warm in a very cold weather .Saunas are built as part of home or garden furniture.

However, the use of heat therapy is not known to the Finnish alone. In Africa it is part of the native intelligence to do a heat therapy. Some of us do remember that our grand parents used heat via steam for the treatment of illnesses. Where you have to cover yourself up with the “Agbo” a boiled native herb which enables deeper penetration of the herbs for effective detoxification of the deeper layer of the skin and resultant sweat out of the bacteria or virus in the body.

Therefore one can be sure that heat therapy can be carried out dry or wet i.e. steam. It must also be noted that the use of heat is not limited to the afore mentioned. Heat treatment is now being used in the treatment of cancer, as infra treatment, laser surgery and many other ways. The use of heat therapy as practiced by beauticians which is our main concern here, remain a tremendous source of help to the medical treatment of some of these diseases.

“The benefit of heat therapy was especially great in patients who had been treated with radiation in the past. Among those patients, 68% in the hyperthermia group and 22% of the radiation-only group had a complete response.” .-Duke University USA This report was made by researchers on a study on how heat therapy can boost the effectiveness of radiation treatments in people whose cancer has returned

It is important to note that, heat therapy is not only for the purpose of smooth looking skin but also serves health benefits. Hence, in the course of article we shall consider the various benefit of the heat therapy both medically and aesthetically. And also, look at the reason for it vis a vis which one is suitable? The dry or the wet.

Also we would look at the available options, that is; the Digital or analogue or manual. Which one is met for this age? What are the potential hazards and financial risk involved in each type? The various additions to this therapy– Aromatherapy, Ozone etc how are they made possible?

About the 17th and 18th century, spa became popular in England as an extension of the Roman civilization extending to the English world. The benefit of the steam and dry heat became more apparent as a means of relaxation and stress reduction. The spa therapy includes the following:

  • Steam therapy
  • Sauna therapy
  • Mud therapy
  • Thalassotherapy
  • Algotherapy
  • kneipp therapy
  • Jacuzzi

<![CDATA[Steam-Sauna What purpose?]]>Sat, 12 Mar 2016 19:44:14 GMThttp://thestands.co/blog/steam-sauna-what-purpose
In our previous discussions on the use and ways of Sauna and steam we have given thoughts and consideration to their history in the recent past and also considered some of the benefits the body is capable of deriving from the heat component of these baths.

However it is becoming increasingly important that we look at the why, this is so because our reasons for the having a sauna or steam built in our environment seem to differ. The first society people may have seen the sauna and or steam as a connection medium to the ancestral world. The modern man depending on his geographical location has different reasons and perception to the steam or sauna.

These perceptions do inform our approach to its use. One must bear in mind that wellness centres were not the real reason for sauna or steam but it became an architectural part of a spa and complimentary service. Sauna or steam initially form part of homes and in the Roman Empire part of military formations such as the Timgad with many bath houses... however there are also baths centre administering communal steam baths associated with beautification at later dates.

As the use and appreciation of the sauna and steam continue to grow their use also moved from the mere garden house of the finish to warm and relax the body after a good day work to what could in acute cases be life sustenance. Because of the type need it has become, it has to be designed in different sizes and forms.

How best will you attend a sauna? Some prefer it nude while many others think it ok to have your towel by your waist or robe on. Well, the heat therapy as administered by the sauna and steam is effective only when the body is able to receive a quantity of it that would be enough to excrete via the skin surface unwanted stored up fats, oil and bacteria /virus. The medium of reaction, if you like interface, is the skin, so the larger the amount of it exposed to heat the better and faster the body get warmed at a given temperature. Therefore if the desire of the bather is to get health benefit a total exposure of the body we be more profitable. This is the measure of the German bathers as they go nude in the sauna or steam.

The casual bather do not regard his reason for the bath, it is just enough to go into the bath sweat a bit and dash out, that is the limit of his interest. These are the spa baths that are sometimes timed, for this category being nude in the sauna or steam is nothing. It is routine, it is procedure.

The steam has added value in a skin care centre/spa. It is an exfoliating media. Then a nude bath is it, with scrubbing and shower. So let us choice according to our need and reason, then the effectiveness of the therapy we come about.
